Don't think its worth it

With a safari subscription you pay about $50 a month.
Great you get 5 tokens to use a month which 'purchases' you downloads.
However if you don't use those tokens in 90days you lose them.

A book 'costs' between 10 and 15 tokens on average for a 'useful' manual or freference one.
The books are available on Amazon or other web stores for less than $25.
Save your subscription and buy 2 books a month.

I understand what safari books is all about or I would not have signed up and stuck with it for over 3 years.
In that time I have realised that if you buy hardware or software it comes with a manual or more commonly now a dowmloadable pdf or help site.
I also found, when thinking of buying something new, or having a problem not in the 'manual' it is easier to google the problem you are having or the question you need answered and it is out there in some forum or other. Someone in the world normally has asked the question or had the problem before you. So I bookmark that page or upload the relevant pages of the manual.
I then have my $500 or so to spend on books I want and for updating my systems and software.
Imagine if you had a really well stocked kitchen with the food you really liked and a pocket full of small easy to carry energy bars you really, really liked. Why would you go to that 24/7 and pay them monthly, for something you already have or can get from your neighbours?
In my opinion, I don't think it is worth it.

I don't think you understand what Safari Books Online really is. A $50 subscription gives you complete online access to the full text of every single book. It's true that you have a limited number of download tokens for offline viewing, but downloading PDF files is a really small part of the service. It's kind of like complaining that you have a 24/7 all-you-can-eat buffet at the corner cafe, but you are annoyed that the take-away containers don't hold as much as you'd like
